Join us for a journey to one of the most stunning lagoons worldwide on our excursion to the Quilotoa Lagoon. Departing from Riobamba, you'll be enchanted by the lagoon's vividly vibrant waters.
Excursion to Quilotoa Lagoon
At 8 am, we'll come to collect you from your accommodation in Riobamba and embark on the road to Quilotoa Lagoon.
Our first stop will be the town of Zumbahua, nestled within the majestic Ecuadorian Andes. Here, you will witness the breathtaking Toachi River canyon, shaped by the ancient flows of the Quilotoa Volcano. Following this, we'll visit Tigua to admire the traditional masks crafted by the local Indigenous artisans.
Continuing on, we'll reach the Quilotoa Lagoon, a spectacular lake measuring approximately 8 miles (13 kilometres) in diameter, situated within an ancient volcanic caldera. This remarkable feature emerged after the volcanic cone collapsed around 800 years ago.
Once at the caldera's rim, you’ll embark on a 1-hour kayaking adventure across the lagoon's colorful waters. Keep your eyes peeled; you may catch a glimpse of some deer or rabbits that roam the surrounding Andean vegetation!
After your kayaking experience, we will proceed to the village of Quilotoa, where a traditional lunch featuring corn and beans awaits you. After enjoying your meal, you'll have an hour of leisure to explore the local craftsmanship in the area.
Finally, we will make our way back to Riobamba, ensuring you are dropped off at your hotel by 7 pm.
