Riobamba, Guano & Pucará Tambo Tour
At the designated time, we will pick you up from your hotel in Riobamba for a walking tour of the historic center. We will start by visiting the city's viewpoint for views of the Chimborazo Volcano. Then, we'll proceed to St. Peter Cathedral to see its architectural styles and baroque façade. Our next stop will be the Merced Market, where you’ll experience local life and learn about typical dishes like hornado de Riobamba.
We will visit the Museum of the Mummy of Guano, which houses the mummified body of missionary Fray Lázaro de Santofimia. If the opportunity arises, you may also see Baltazar Ushca, the last ice maker of Chimborazo.
Next, we will visit Balbanera church, built by indigenous people and Spaniards in 1534. We will stop for lunch at the Pucará Tambo Tourist Centre.
After lunch, we will tour the tourist centre for panoramic views of Riobamba. Pucará Tambo, in the rural parish of Cacha, maintains traditional practices of making ponchos and other textiles. You will learn about the customs and traditions of its inhabitants.
Finally, we will return you to your hotel in Riobamba, completing the tour after 9 hours.
