Riobamba, Guano & Pucará Tambo Tour
At the scheduled time, we will pick you up from your hotel in Riobamba for a walking tour of the historic center.
We will start at the city's viewpoint to enjoy views of the Chimborazo Volcano. Next, we will visit St. Peter Cathedral to observe its architectural styles and baroque façade. Our next stop will be the Merced Market, where we will learn about local dishes, including hornado de Riobamba.
Then, we will go to the Museum of the Mummy of Guano. It is said to present the mummified body of the missionary Fray Lázaro de Santofimia. If fortunate, we may see the last ice maker of Chimborazo, Baltazar Ushca.
Following this, we will visit Balbanera Church, built in 1534 by indigenous people and Spaniards, located by the lake. We will then stop for lunch at the restaurant in the Pucará Tambo Tourist Centre.
After lunch, we will tour the tourist center, offering panoramic views of Riobamba. Pucará Tambo is in the rural parish of Cacha, known for traditional poncho making and textiles. You will learn about the customs and traditions of its inhabitants.
