Tour Choices
When reserving your spot, you can select from the following experiences: both include an English-speaking guide, entry tickets, and transportation. Below are the specifics of each choice:
Appian Way Catacombs Tour
At your scheduled time, we will gather at the Basilica of Saints Cosme and Damian to initiate the tour. Prepare to explore the depths of the Eternal City!
We will board our transportation and set off towards the Christian Catacombs of Callixtus located on the historic Appian Way, a site that traces its origins back to Roman times.
Accompanied by our guide, we will navigate through this network of tunnels fashioned in volcanic tuff. Here lie the resting places of the early Christians, and we will share some intriguing secrets held within these ancient walls. Have you had the chance to explore a catacomb site before?
After approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, we will conclude this leg of the tour. Until next time!
Appian Way Catacombs + Mamertine Prison Tour
For those seeking a more extensive adventure, this option will take you to two of Ancient Rome's most renowned sites. From the Basilica of Saints Cosme and Damian, we will commence our tour with a visit to the Mamertine Prison, located near the Roman Forum.
Erected in the 7th century, this facility was utilized by Romans to detain notable figures, including Saint Peter and Saint Paul, prior to their execution at the behest of Nero.
Next, we will journey to the Christian catacombs on the ancient Appian Way. We’ll delve into the underground passageways where the remnants of the first Christians rest. During this segment, you will gain insights into the mortuary customs of that era and the enigmas that lie beneath.
This tour will wrap up 2.5 to 3 hours later
