Marvel at one of Rome’s important art and archaeological museums, the Capitoline Museum, followed by a visit to Piazza del Campidoglio, on top of the Capitoline Hill, during a 3-hour guided tour.
Capitoline Museum Tour
Your tour starts at Piazza del Campidoglio, led by an English-speaking art historian guide. Designed by Michelangelo in the sixteenth century, the piazza's image is featured on the Italian 50 cent coins.
The square houses the striking town hall and the Capitoline Museums, the oldest archaeological museum in the world. The knowledgeable guide will lead you through the Museum’s main rooms and highlight famous artwork, including the bronze she-wolf that nurses Romulus and Remus and the equestrian statue of Marcus Aurelius, sculpted in the second century A.D.
After visiting the Museum, take a walking tour around Piazza Venezia. There, you will see the Altare della Patria, dedicated to the first king of Italy, and the impressive Monument to Vittorio Emanuele II.
Then, stroll down Via dei Fori Imperiali, observing significant landmarks like the Basilica of Maxentius, Trajan’s Column, and the Forum of Nerva. You’ll view the Colosseum (Amphitheatre Flavium) and the Arch of Constantine, concluding the tour by the Arch.
