Day Trip to Assisi + Wine Tasting

Set off on a day trip from Rome across the Italian countryside to discover the birthplace of St Francis in the charming town of Assisi.

Tour Description

After picking you up from your hotel at the indicated time, we'll head north towards the Umbria region. Explore one of Italy's famous pilgrimage sites.

Upon arrival in Assisi, we'll take a guided tour, starting with a half hour visit to the Basilica of St. Francis, which houses the saint's tomb and notable frescoes from the 12th to 14th century by artists such as Cimabue and Giotto.

Next, we'll visit Town Hall Square to admire the Palazzo dei Priori, Palazzo del Capitolo del Popolo, Torre Civica, and the Temple of Minerva, the region's most preserved Roman building. The tour continues with a visit to the tomb of Blessed Carlo Acutis in the Santuario della Spogliazione.

We'll have a guided visit of almost 2 hours to a typical wine cellar to taste 4 glasses of Umbrian wines, accompanied by bruschettas with extra virgin olive oil, cheeses, porchetta, and cured meats.

Leaving Assisi, we'll stop at the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli, built to protect the Porziuncola and the Chapel of the Transitus, where St. Francis died in 1226.

The tour will end in Piazza della Repubblica in central Rome, about 12 hours after pickup.

Pickup Info

The day trip includes hotel pickup in central Rome. If you’re staying in an apartment or a B&B, proceed to the meeting point in Piazza della Repubblica, in front of the church of Santa Maria degli Angeli, at 7:30 am. Please be on time to avoid delays.

Wine Tasting

Please note that, due to availability, the wine tasting may take place in a typical restaurant and not in the winery. In this case, you'll taste wine accompanied by regional products.
