Set off on a day trip from Rome to discover the birthplace of St Francis in the town of Assisi.

Tour Description

The tour begins with a pickup from your hotel in Rome, followed by travel to the Umbria region. In Assisi, experience a guided tour of the Basilica of Saint Francis, which includes the saint’s tomb and important frescoes from the 12th to 14th centuries.

Explore Piazza del Comune, observing the exterior of the Palazzo dei Priori, the People's Capitol Palace, the Civic Tower, and the Temple of Minerva. Visit the Basilica of Saint Clare, housing the saint’s relics, and the Sanctuary of the Renunciation, where Blessed Carlo Acutis is buried.

Enjoy a one-hour guided visit to a traditional Umbrian winery, including a tasting of regional wine paired with bruschetta, cheeses, and cured meats. A brief 20-minute stop at the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli will precede our return to Rome, viewing the Porziuncola and the Chapel of the Transit, where St Francis died in 1226.

The tour concludes at Piazza della Repubblica in Rome, approximately 12 hours after departure.

Pickup Details

Pickup is available for hotels within the Aurelian Walls in Rome. For those outside this area or staying in an apartment or B&B, please meet directly at Piazza della Repubblica at 7:30 am, in front of the Church of Santa Maria degli Angeli.

Depending on availability, the wine tasting may be held in a traditional restaurant rather than a winery, with regional wine paired with local products still provided.
