Mount Tarawera Helicopter Ride

Options

When booking, you can choose from the following options, depending on the length of flight you'd prefer. Both start and end at Rotorua City Lakefront.

40-minute ride

This option includes a 40-minute helicopter ride around Mount Tarawera, known for one of New Zealand’s significant historical eruptions. The flight departs from Rotorua City Lakefront, offering views of the lakes of Rotorua, rugged mountains, and the colours of the Tarawera crater.

The helicopter will land at the top of the mountain for a walk to the edge of the crater. Guests can learn about the Maori culture from the pilot during a 15-minute break at the crater before returning to the helicopter and flying back to the starting point.

60-minute ride

The 60-minute ride allows for a longer flight around Mount Tarawera, including views of the famous Tarawera Falls, the geothermal reservoirs of Waimangu and Wai-O-Tapu, and a flight over the Fault Line and part of the Pacific Ring of Fire.
