Why Visit the Basilica of Saint-Denis?

The Basilica of Saint-Denis is a Medieval abbey church featuring pointed arches, rib-vaulted ceilings, and stained glass windows. It was the first Gothic building in Western Europe, constructed between the 12th and 15th centuries. This ticket grants access to the Basilica, allowing exploration of its interior that includes the royal necropolis, the final resting place of many French monarchs. Notable tombs include those of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette.

Visitors will appreciate the sculptural masterpieces and the spectacular stained glass, especially the rose window. Other highlights include the organ, choir, and adjoining chapels. A visit to the Fabrique de la flèche offers insights into the Basilica's construction.

Opening Times

The Basilica of Saint-Denis is open during the following hours:

April 1 - September 30: Monday to Saturday, from 10 am to 6:15 pm; Sundays, from 12 pm to 6:15 pm.October 1 - March 31: Monday to Saturday, from 10 am to 5:15 pm; Sundays, from 12 pm to 5:15 pm.

Final admission is 30 minutes before closing. The royal necropolis and the Fabrique de la flèche are open Tuesday to Sunday. Opening times are subject to change.

Free Admission

Free admission is available for:

Youth from the EU aged 18 to 25.Children under 18, regardless of nationality.

Admission is also free on the first Sunday of each month between January 1 and March 31 and between November 1 and December 31, as well as on the 3rd weekend of September. Free tickets require a certifying document at the ticket office.
