Join us on a guided tour of Speightstown, Barbados' second largest city, starting at 1B Highway Street. We will walk through the picturesque streets located on the northwest coast.
Description
During this walking tour, we will explore the British colonial influences and the 17th-century architecture that define the town. We will visit Queen Street, the city's main road, observing old buildings, shops, restaurants, and art galleries. Key structures include traditional wooden and coral stone houses, iron balconies, and red-tiled roofs. We will also pass Arlington House Museum, which features interactive exhibits on the town's history.
Additionally, we will proceed to Church Street to see St. Peter's Church, one of Barbados' oldest buildings, constructed in 1837 in Gothic style. The church's cemetery contains notable tombs, including those of Admiral Lord Nelson and writer George Lamming.
Our route will also include Orange Street, offering scenic views of the Caribbean Sea and Speightstown Pier, renowned for its palm trees and a mural depicting daily life. The 2-hour walking tour concludes here.
