On this tour through the salt mines of Pedra de Lume and Santa Maria, we will visit two key attractions of the island of Sal and the only salt deposit located in the crater of a volcano.

Pedra de Lume + Santa Maria Salt Mines Tour

Pickup will be between 8:20 and 8:40 am at your hotel in Santa Maria for a tour to explore famous sites on the island.

The first stop is Pedra de Lume, the oldest settlement on the island, founded in 1804. After a brief visit, we will explore its salt mines, uniquely located in a volcanic crater.

This area features stunning views with salt-covered landscapes of pink and turquoise. Since 2004, it has been included on the UNESCO list of candidates for World Heritage Site status.

The next destination is the Santa Maria salt marshes, where we will discuss the significance of the salt industry for the island. The tour concludes in the town of Santa Maria, where we will relax in a restaurant with a sea view and enjoy an aperitif of typical products, including fidjoss and baobab juice.

The tour will conclude with a return to your hotel, expected around 12:30 pm.
