On this tour through the salt mines of Pedra de Lume and Santa Maria, we'll visit two of the main attractions of the island of Sal and the only salt deposit located in the crater of a volcano.

Pedra de Lume + Santa Maria Salt Mines Tour

We'll pick you up between 8:20 and 8:40 am at your hotel in Santa Maria for a tour of the island. The first stop will be Pedra de Lume, the oldest settlement on the island, founded in 1804. After exploring the town, we will visit its famous salt mines, which feature the world's only salt deposit in a volcanic crater.

This area offers views of salt-covered landscapes, characterized by pink and turquoise hues. Since 2004, it has been proposed for inclusion in the Unesco World Heritage Site list.

We will then proceed to the Santa Maria salt marshes to learn about the importance of the salt industry for the island. The tour concludes with a visit to a restaurant overlooking the sea in Santa Maria, where you will enjoy an aperitif of typical products like fidjoss and baobab juice.

We will return to your hotel around 12:30 pm.
