On this nocturnal sea turtle-watching activity on the island of Sal, we will explore a deserted beach to observe these reptiles nesting at night.

Description

Once the sun has set, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Santa Maria and take you to a beach populated by Cape Verde loggerhead turtles. Your guide will help you enjoy the experience while respecting the natural environment of these creatures. We will see the turtles as they nest in the sand or head out to sea.

In small groups, we will walk along the beach to avoid disturbing the turtles. You will witness their movements and learn about their breeding and reproduction. Infrared lamps will be provided for taking pictures in the dark.

After this experience, we will return to your hotel, approximately 2 hours after pickup.

Schedule Info

This activity will start at 7:30 pm or 9:30 pm, with the exact time confirmed on the day of the experience.

Important Info

The best time to see turtles on the beach is between May and October, although sightings may vary due to factors such as weather and breeding seasons. Silence is required during the turtle watching to avoid disturbing the animals.
