On this nocturnal sea turtle-watching activity on the island of Sal, we will explore a deserted Cape Verde beach to observe these reptiles nesting at night.
Description
After sunset, we will pick you up from your hotel in Santa Maria and take you to a beach inhabited by Cape Verde loggerhead turtles, the most common species on the island of Sal. Your guide will ensure that you enjoy the experience while respecting the natural environment. We will observe the turtles as they nest in the sand or head out to sea.
We will walk in small groups along the beach, minimizing disturbance to the turtles. You will learn about their breeding and reproductive habits. Infrared lamps will be provided for nighttime photography.
After the experience, we will return you to your hotel, approximately 2 hours after pickup.
Pickup
Pickup is available from hotels or tourist apartments in Espargos, Santa Maria, and Murdeira.
Things to keep in mind
The best time to see turtles on the beach is between May and October, though sightings may vary due to weather conditions or breeding seasons.
