Private 4-Day Hiking Tour to Nevado del Tolima Volcano
Day 1: Salento - Cocora Valley
Your adventure begins with a 5 am pickup from your accommodation in Salento, followed by a drive in a 4x4 vehicle to the Cocora Valley. Once we arrive, we will begin our trek encompassing 18 kilometers (11 miles).
As we hike, we will navigate through rocky and uneven paths rich with Quindio wax palms, cloud forests, and moorland. We will ascend to an elevation of 1800 meters (5905 feet), where we will pause for a rest at the finca La Primavera, our lodging for the night.
Day 2: Cocora Valley - Arenales
With a new dawn, we will start the day with a nutritious breakfast to replenish our energy. Post breakfast, we will tackle an 8-kilometer (5 miles) trail ascending up to 790 meters (2592 feet).
The humidity will increase as we move upward towards the Nevado del Tolima, revealing moorlands alongside sandy stretches inhabited by toucans, sparrow hawks, and Andean condors.
We will finally elevate to 4400 meters (14435 feet) and unwind at the Arenales campsite.
Day 3: Arenales - Cañon Hot Springs
After a hearty breakfast, we will embark on the ascent to the summit of the Tolima volcano, towering over 5200 meters (17060 feet).
From this height, we will gain fascinating views of neighboring volcanoes such as Ruiz, El Cisne, and Santa Isabel. You will have a moment to capture stunning photographs of the majestic Los Nevados National Park and the remarkable Quindío and Santa Rosa mounts, alongside the valley of the Magdalena River.
Our next stop will be the thermal springs of Cañón, where you can indulge in soothing volcanic pools. We will spend the night at the campsite near these hot springs.
Day 4: Cañón Hot Springs - Ibagué
The closing day of our adventure features an 18-kilometer (11 miles) alpine trail. We will depart from the Cañón hot springs, passing by glacial lakes Vancouver and Bombona.
Our route will lead us through the Amberes valley to Palomar, a scenic mountainous area in Anzoátegui. Upon reaching our final destination, we will take an all-terrain vehicle to Ibagué, aiming to arrive around 5:30 pm.
