Nevado del Tolima Volcano Private 4-day Hiking Tour

On this 4-day private hiking route from Salento to Ibagué, participants will summit the Nevado del Tolima while exploring Los Nevados National Park and its glacier area.

Day 1: Salento - Cocora Valley

Pickup from your hotel in Salento is at 5 am for a 4x4 ride to Cocora Valley, followed by an 18-kilometre (11 miles) trek. The hike features rocky stretches with Quindio wax palms, moorlands, and cloud forests, reaching an altitude of 1800 metres (5905 feet) where we will rest at finca La Primavera for the night.

Day 2: Cocora Valley - Arenales

After breakfast, we'll undertake an 8-kilometre (5 miles) trek with a 790 metres (2592 feet) ascent. The route will take us through humid weather, moorlands, and sandy areas populated by various bird species. We will reach an altitude of 4400 metres (14435 feet) and stay at the Arenales campsite.

Day 3: Arenales - Cañon Hot Springs

Post-breakfast, we'll head to the summit of the Tolima volcano, exceeding 5200 metres (17060 feet). Opportunities to photograph other volcanoes and scenic views will be available. We will conclude the day at the thermal springs of Cañón and camp there.

Day 4: Cañón hot springs - Ibagué

The final day includes an 18-kilometre (11 miles) alpine route. We will traverse past Vancouver and Bombona lakes before walking through the Amberes valley to Palomar. Completion of the trek will lead to boarding a vehicle to Ibagué, arriving around 5:30 pm.
