Embark on a journey through the most renowned villages in northern Argentina, nestled among verdant hills and expansive valleys, on this day trip to Iruya!

Description

Your adventure begins with a pickup from your hotel in Salta, setting the stage for an exhilarating excursion to Iruya, a charming village located in the northern region of Argentina.

Our first stop is the town of General Güemes, where we’ll hit the highway leading us towards the province of Jujuy and the stunning Quebrada de Humahuaca. This particular route is notable as it is the only way to access the enchanting destination of Iruya.

Throughout our travels, we will take breaks at a selection of delightful towns, with Purmamarca, Tilcara, and Humahuaca standing out as key highlights. For photography enthusiasts, worry not, as we’ll guide you to the best spots to capture breathtaking scenes. Maimará and the unique crossing of the Tropic of Capricorn offer excellent frames for your photos.

We will then make our way through the village of Iturbe, which remains lively despite the closure of its famed railroad station. Following this stop, we’ll navigate a winding road that leads us to the Abra del Condor, the tallest point in the region, where we will reach an altitude of 4,000 meters (13,123 feet) above sea level.

As we begin our descent of 1,220 meters (4,000 feet), we will finally approach our destination, Iruya. The village reveals itself magnificently, surrounded by majestic mountains. Established in 1753, the community's life has traditionally revolved around agriculture.

Upon arrival in Iruya, you will have two hours of leisure time to enjoy a meal and discover the main sights of the town. We recommend visiting the local church and taking a leisurely stroll around the central square. Additionally, be sure to check out the captivating viewpoints, La Cruz and El Condor.

After an enriching 13-hour expedition, we’ll conclude the day by returning you to your hotel in Salta.
