Join us for an excursion to explore the pre-Hispanic art of Argentina at the Painted Caves of Guachipas, featuring artwork created by native peoples.
Tour Highlights
We will pick you up at your hotel in Salta and travel south to the Cuevas Pintadas de Guachipas. The visit will begin at the Interpretation Center, where we will learn about the history of the caves. Between the 9th and 15th centuries, local indigenous groups created pre-Columbian art, illustrating human and animal figures.
Next, we will observe the pre-Hispanic paintings located on a rocky hill 35 kilometers from Guachipas. Notable representations include camelids, condors, felines, and various geometric and abstract designs.
Our exploration will continue in the Painted Caves, where we will view striking figures known as shieldmen. After interpreting their significance, we will enjoy a picnic lunch consisting of a sandwich, fruit, a slice of cake, and two bottles of mineral water.
Following lunch, we will return to your hotel in Salta, completing the tour approximately 12 hours after pickup.
