On this walking tour of Pelourinho, we'll discover the African heritage that still lives and breathes in the center of this Brazilian city. We'll learn stories of colonization, slavery, and liberation.

Salvador de Bahia African Culture Tour

We'll meet at 2 pm in front of the Cathedral Basilica of San Salvador and begin a walking tour to learn about the influence and legacy of African culture in Salvador de Bahia, specifically in the Pelourinho neighborhood.

First, we'll go to Terreiro de Jesus, where we'll learn the history of the colonization through the actions of the Jesuit Missions and Portuguese colonization. We'll also discuss African figures who have contributed to Salvador de Bahia's history.

Next, we will walk to the Cross of Sao Francisco, where we will discuss the formation of a men's organization in the 19th century aimed at supporting the black community in their struggle for liberation. We will also explore significant elements of African culture like samba and capoeira dances.

Lastly, we will visit the Escola do Olodum, a cultural center focused on African heritage, highlighting the importance of Carnival in the city.

After three hours, we will conclude the guided tour at the Cross of San Francisco.
