On this walking tour of Pelourinho, we'll discover the African heritage that still lives in this Brazilian city, learning about colonization, slavery, and liberation.

Salvador de Bahia African Culture Tour

We will meet at 2 pm in front of the Cathedral Basilica of San Salvador for a tour focused on the influence of African culture in Salvador de Bahia, particularly in the Pelourinho neighborhood.

The tour will begin at Terreiro de Jesus, where we will explore the history of colonization in Brazil via the Jesuit Missions and the Portuguese colonization. Insights on notable African figures from the area will also be provided.

Next, we will walk to the Cross of Sao Francisco, where we will discuss the establishment of a men's organization in the 19th century aimed at supporting the black community in their struggle for liberation. We will also highlight key aspects of African culture such as samba and capoeira.

Lastly, we will visit the Escola do Olodum, a cultural and educational center focused on African heritage, where we will discuss the significance of Carnival in the city.

After three hours, the guided tour will conclude at the Cross of San Francisco.
