Salvador de Bahia African Culture Tour

We'll meet at 2 pm in front of the Cathedral Basilica of San Salvador to start a tour exploring the influence of African culture in Salvador de Bahia, particularly in the Pelourinho neighborhood.

The tour will begin at Terreiro de Jesus, where we'll discuss the colonization of this area through the Jesuit Missions and Portuguese colonization. We'll also highlight notable African figures who have contributed to Salvador de Bahia's history.

Next, we'll head to the Cross of Sao Francisco. Here we will discuss the establishment of a men's organization in the 19th century aimed at supporting the black community's liberation efforts. We will also explore key elements of African culture like samba and capoeira, which may inspire you to dance!

Lastly, we'll visit the Escola do Olodum, an educational center that emphasizes the significance of Carnival in the city.

After three hours of sightseeing, the guided tour will conclude at the Cross of San Francisco.
