Mix tradition with culture on this African culture tour in Salvador, featuring options for lunch in a favela or enjoying feijoada with a family in Garcia.

Options

When booking your African Culture Tour in Salvador de Bahía, you can select from the following itineraries. Both options include hotel pickup and drop-off, transport, an English-speaking guide, and lunch:

Tour with lunch in a favela (6 hours)

The tour begins with hotel pickup and a visit to the Rio Vermelho promenade, where you'll see the sacred altar of the African deity Yemanja. Next, we'll stop at Dique do Tororó for photos of African monuments and proceed to Feira de São Joaquim market, declared Intangible Heritage. Here, you will experience traditional stalls and sample acarajé.

We will then visit the Candomblé Sacred Temple to learn about the Ewé-fon African religion. The tour concludes with lunch in a favela, featuring a traditional dish (choose from fish or prawn stew, beef fillet, or fried fish) served with rice, beans, and farofa before returning to your hotel.

Tour with feijoada with a local family (7 hours)

This option starts in the Pelourinho neighbourhood, a World Heritage Site. You'll visit the Afro-Brazilian Museum and the Ferroviario Neighbourhood to learn about the stories of slaves' descendants, then explore Feira de São Joaquim market and the old slave market in Salvador. Our journey continues to the Candomblé Sacred Temple.

Finally, we will head to the Garcia Neighbourhood for lunch with an Afro-Brazilian family, featuring feijoada, a bean stew with beef and pork, before returning to your hotel.
