Tour Overview
At the scheduled time, we will gather at 3 Rainerstraße. From this point, we'll proceed to Kurgurten, a delightful garden adjacent to Mirabell Palace, a stunning baroque structure established in the 17th century. Let’s embark on this historical adventure!
We will enter the beautifully landscaped gardens, where we can admire mythological figures and the locations used in the 1960s musical film The Sound of Music. Afterward, we will stroll along the Salzach River until we arrive at the vibrant center of the old town. Along our path, we will pass by the residence of Mozart, where he lived for a significant part of his life.
Just a short walk away on Getreidegasse, you'll encounter Mozart's birthplace, which is now a museum. Here, elegant façades and wrought iron signs echo the historical essence of Salzburg. Our guided experience will then lead us to Kollegienkirche, an architectural gem crafted by Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach. Did you know this church has been a venue for operas since the 1970s?
Continuing, we’ll reach Residenzplatz, where we can appreciate the beauty of the Residenzbrunnen and Salzburg Cathedral, the very site where Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was baptized. This cathedral, refurbished in the 17th century, stands as one of the city’s most significant landmarks.
As we delve into the history of this square, we’ll stroll past the Mariensäule fountain, making our way toward Domplatz and the striking sphere at Kapitelplatz. At Kapitelplatz, you'll be greeted by a large sphere in brilliant golden colors that harmonizes beautifully with the city’s historic ambiance.
In addition, at Kapitelplatz, you'll observe the Kapitelschwemme, an area where horses were once quenched and rested. From this vantage point, we will enjoy a sweeping view of the Hohensalzburg Fortress, one of the oldest fortifications in Central Europe, proudly watching over the city since 1077.
As our guided journey concludes, we'll bid farewell at this picturesque location after a memorable two-hour exploration.
