Tour Details
At the indicated time, we'll meet at 3 Rainerstraße. From there, we'll head to Kurgurten, a garden next to Mirabell Palace, a baroque building from the 17th century. We’ll enter the ornate gardens to see mythological statues and the sets of the film The Sound of Music. We will then walk along the Salzach River to the heart of the old town, passing Mozart's residence.
On Getreidegasse, you'll find Mozart's birthplace, now a museum. Our tour will then take us to Kollegienkirche, designed by Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach, which has hosted operas since the 1970s.
Next, we'll arrive at Residenzplatz to admire the Residenzbrunnen and Salzburg Cathedral, where Mozart was baptized. This church, rebuilt in the 17th century, is one of the city's most iconic buildings.
As we discuss the history of the square, we'll pass the Mariensäule fountain, making our way to Domplatz and the sphere on Kapitelplatz. Here, you will see a large golden sphere that adds a contemporary element to the historic city.
At Kapitelplatz, you'll see the Kapitelschwemme, where horses used to drink. From there, we'll get a view of the Hohensalzburg Fortress, one of the oldest fortresses in Central Europe.
After a 2-hour guided tour, we'll conclude our visit at this last point.
