The magnificent Salzkammergut region, which encompasses three provinces (Upper Austria, Salzburg, Styria), is one of the most historically significant areas in Austria. It derives its name from the Gmunden salt chamber, which has been overseeing the region for centuries. And what a region it is! Salzkammergut literally means "salt chamber," and it's easy to see why.

The region, situated in the heart of Austria, boasts over 76 lakes and offers visitors a wealth of breathtaking scenery and vistas. It was a favoured holiday destination for Austrian Emperor Franz-Josef, who enjoyed hunting in the area. The region was also home to hunting activities conducted by Salzburg's Prince Archbishops.

Just a hop, skip and a jump from the equally gorgeous city of Salzburg, you can dive into another world – one of Austria's most stunning regions, the Salzkammergut lakes. There are so many chances to capture the beauty around you with your camera, but remember to stay in the moment and try to put it down sometimes to fully soak up this magical region.
