On this private tour of the San Agustín Archaeological Park, we will explore the history and culture of the world's largest necropolis.
Description
We will pick you up from your hotel at the indicated time to visit the San Agustín Archaeological Park, the largest necropolis in the world and one of the most significant archaeological sites in Colombia.
The tour starts at the Luis Duque Gomez Museum, where we will see statues, tools, and pottery from the necropolis excavations.
Next, we will visit the Bosque de las Estatuas, a 700-metre-long (2300-foot) gallery lined with ancient sculptures. We will continue through Mesitas A, B, and C, where funerary monuments, tombs, and notable sculptures like the Eagle and Sun God are located.
We will discuss the advanced knowledge of the indigenous San Agustín culture in architecture, mathematics, astronomy, philosophy, and worldview.
The next destination is the Lavapatas fountain, a noteworthy example of hydraulic engineering. We will learn about its functionality and significance. We will then proceed to the Alto de Lavapatas, where a dwelling from 3300 BC was discovered, including a hearth and human remains, along with significant stone mounds for the culture.
Finally, we will return to your hotel, approximately 4 hours after pickup.
