2-Day Tour
Day 1: Cotopaxi
We'll commence our adventure by picking you up at your hotel in Quito, departing the capital towards the Andes via the Panamerican South road. Before continuing our journey, a breakfast stop will be made to energize us for the day ahead, culminating in a visit to the second highest volcano in Ecuador, soaring to 19,347 feet (5,897 meters) above sea level.
Located 62.1 miles (100 kilometers) from Quito, the Cotopaxi National Park awaits. Once we complete our registration to enter this protected area, we'll explore the Mariscal Sucre Interpretation Center, where informative exhibits depict the volcano's natural surroundings and wildlife. Our next destination is the Laguna de Limpiopungo, a serene lagoon offering chances to observe an array of native birds and plant species.
As we continue, we will undertake a hike to the Refugio José Rivas, located at an impressive 15,958 feet (4,864 meters). This approximately 1.5-hour hike boasts breathtaking panoramic views, making it a rewarding experience.
Following our hike, we will pause for lunch at a traditional hacienda or a local restaurant. The day concludes with our arrival at the hotel in Cotopaxi, allowing you to unwind and take advantage of the free afternoon to relax or explore at your leisure.
Day 2: Quilotoa
After a hearty breakfast and rejuvenation, our southbound journey begins. Our first visit will be to Julián's home, where a local farmer will share insights into guinea pig farming and regional agricultural practices.
Next, we will stop at the town of Tigua, renowned for its Naïve art movement artists. Here, you'll explore an art gallery filled with beautifully hand-painted works on llama and donkey leather, which you may wish to purchase. En route back to Quito, we’ll take a moment at the Tohatchi Lookout to enjoy stunning vistas.
Upon arriving at the Ilinizas Ecological Reserve, you will have the choice of various trails leading to the breathtaking Quilotoa Lake, famous for its stunning turquoise waters. Capture the beauty of this striking landscape!
Afterward, enjoy some leisure time to savor a delicious regional lunch before we head back to Quito. This segment of the tour will wrap up around 7 pm at your accommodation.
3-Day Tour
If you have the flexibility, consider the 3-day tour, which follows a similar itinerary as the first day of the shorter tour. On the second day, post-lunch, we will proceed to Baños de Agua Santa.
You will be taken to a hotel in Baños, allowing you to experience a charming evening in the town after settling in. Sample the local cuisine, stroll through the town's streets, and take advantage of the thermal water baths!
On our third day, after breakfast, we'll embark on a hike through Mindo to explore the beautiful waterfalls, known as La Ruta de las Cascadas. We will traverse via tarabita (cable cars) across the Pastaza River, treating you to scenic views of waterfalls, mountains, and untamed forests. We will visit the Pailón del Diablo Waterfall and the Casa del Árbol, where you can experience the thrilling Swing at the End of the World.
After this, you’ll enjoy free time to partake in additional activities, explore the town, and grab a bite to eat, ensuring you make the most of your time in Baños!
After lunch, we’ll head back to Quito, concluding the 3-day Andes adventure by dropping you off around 9 pm.
