On this day trip to Cotopaxi and the Quilotoa viewpoint, we will explore the Ecuadorian highlands, featuring one of the highest active volcanoes and a volcanic lagoon with turquoise waters.
Day Trip Details
We will pick you up in Quito and take the Pan-American Highway South, observing various Andean ecosystems and landscapes.
After 1.5 hours, we will arrive at Cotopaxi National Park, home to a significant active volcano, the second most important tourist attraction in Ecuador. Here, local tea is available to help prevent altitude sickness.
As we traverse the national park’s páramo, you can visit the park's museum and the Limpiopungo Lagoon, created by ancient volcanic eruptions. If weather permits, a relaxed walk will take you to a forest of chuquiragas, a native flower attracting local hummingbirds, located over 4,000 m (13,123 ft) above sea level.
We will then proceed to Quilotoa Volcano. A brief walk will lead us to the Quilotoa viewpoint, offering a panoramic view of Quilotoa lagoon, recognized for its crystal-clear waters.
After enjoying the view, you will have free time for lunch before returning to Quito. We will conclude the trip approximately 12 hours after the pickup.
