The Great Canyon of Cotundo Day Trip

Between 4:30 and 5 am, pickup from your hotel in Quito begins for a journey to the Gran Cañón de Cotundo.

After departing Quito, we travel to the Ecuadorian Amazon, home of the Quijos indigenous tribe. The drive to Cotundo lasts about 3.5 hours, featuring the region's lush vegetation.

A stop in the colonial town of Baeza, founded in the 16th century, allows for one hour of free time to have breakfast and explore the historic site.

We arrive in Cotundo at 9:30 am to commence our rainforest adventure, where you can observe a wide array of plant species, birds, and butterflies.

Next, a half-mile trek leads us down to the Gran Cañón de Cotundo, shaped by river erosion over thousands of years, creating waterfalls within the mountain.

Following 3 hours of exploration, we have lunch around 2 pm, near the cave complex used for ancient tribes' healing rituals.

We will hike and cross several rivers to explore the caves for one hour, enjoying natural pools and jacuzzis while viewing ancient geological formations.

The tour concludes around 4:30 pm, returning to Quito for hotel drop-off by 8 pm.
