Description

Join us for an engaging hike to Cerro Otto, where we will wander through the scenic landscape, stop by the Berghof refuge, and explore the fascinating Casa del Montañés museum. This experience will illuminate the remarkable life of Otto Meiling, a key German pioneer whose influence shaped this beautiful region.

Itinerary

Your journey begins at the Tourist Information Office located in Civic Center Square, the perfect starting point for our mountain experience from Bariloche.

As we set off, a leisurely walk through the charming German Quarter of Bariloche greets us before we venture into the enchanting Patagonian Forest. Here, we will embark on an uphill hike along Cerro Otto's slopes, taking in breathtaking views of the surrounding lakes and mountains as we ascend.

During our hike, we will recount the adventures of the pioneering Otto Meiling, whose paths we now traverse. After a two-hour journey that covers approximately 5 kilometers (3.1 miles), we will arrive at the historic Berghof refuge. Once Meiling's home, it eventually evolved into the first ski center in South America, leaving a profound legacy.

Next, we will visit the Casa del Montañés Museum at the Berghof Lodge, where we will delve deeper into Otto Meiling's impactful story and the significance of his contributions to the Bariloche community. Following the museum tour, you will have free time to enjoy the refuge at your leisure and savor a relaxing lunch at one of the nearby dining options.

After approximately four hours of exploration, we will wrap up our excursion at the refuge. Should you need assistance, we would be happy to help arrange private transportation back to Bariloche.
