Travel back in time to San Diego's past on this tour of the Gaslamp Quarter. Haunted houses, Victorian buildings, crime stories and old brothels await you.
Description
Join us at the indicated time in front of the Spreckles Theatre, whose façade showcases the city's origins. The Gaslamp Quarter, known as The Stingaree, had a tumultuous beginning marked by rampant crime and scarce safety. This tour explores the remarkable transformation of this neighborhood into a thriving port city.
We will walk the streets of the Gaslamp Quarter, featuring colorful buildings from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Iconic landmarks include Horton Plaza Park, the US Grant Hotel, and the historic Balboa Theatre, where US Marines found respite during their journey to the First World War. One building in the Gaslamp Quarter was famed for an intriguing lady.
Continuing, we will stop at the Yuma Building, a notable example of Victorian architecture, and David Horton's House, a mansion reputed to be haunted. The tour will conclude with a visit to the Tivoli Restaurant, the oldest restaurant in San Diego, after a 2-hour walk in one of the neighborhood's most iconic areas, the Gaslamp Quarter.
