In this guided exploration of Balboa Park, participants will have the opportunity to engage with one of San Diego's iconic sites. We will wander through the expansive gardens, appreciate the remarkable architecture, and delve into the rich historical narratives that define this beautiful space.
Tour Overview
At the arranged time, we will convene at the specified meeting location to commence our journey through Balboa Park. Established in 1868 by Alonzo Horton, who allocated 1,400 acres (566 hectares) of land for its development, Balboa Park has played host to numerous noteworthy events over the years. Throughout our journey, we will uncover these significant historical moments and the diverse heritage that the park embodies.
Our adventure will start at the California Tower, a structure erected for the Panama-California Exposition of 1915. Following this, we will visit the Alcazar Garden, characterized by its inspiration from the traditional Spanish gardens.
We will then proceed along El Prado, the primary avenue of the park. This section features stunning façades of distinctive buildings, as well as the Zoro Gardens, known as Balboa Park’s thriving butterfly habitat. Our next destination will be the Spanish Village Art Centre, where we can observe artists as they create their masterpieces.
A brief but rejuvenating coffee break will follow, providing an opportunity to relax before we move on. Next, the Botanical Building will capture our attention, notable for once being the largest wooden lattice structure globally, originally constructed for the 1915 Exposition.
To wrap up our tour, we will arrive at the Plaza de Panama, concluding our insightful two-hour exploration of Balboa Park.
