Are you ready to explore one of the enchanting towns in San Luis Potosi? This journey to Santa Maria del Rio invites you to traverse its charming streets while immersing yourself in the local culture and heritage.

Santa Maria del Rio Tour

The adventure begins at 10 am with a pickup from your hotel, marking the commencement of our excursion to Santa Maria del Rio. Did you know this town is among the four recognized as magical villages in San Luis Potosi? Let’s uncover what makes it so uniquely enchanting!

After approximately an hour on the road, we will reach Santa Maria del Rio, famed as the birthplace of the rebozo, a traditional shawl. Our first visit will take us to a workshop dedicated to the craft of this traditional clothing. Here, you’ll gain insights into the ancient techniques that artisans have preserved through generations.

The journey continues to the Casa del Rebozo, the world's sole establishment focused on the preservation, promotion, and education surrounding this iconic garment of the 'magical village'. At this interactive exhibition, you'll discover the history of the rebozo, its production process, the intricate weaving patterns, the spools of thread utilized, and the historical tools employed in its creation.

Next, we will proceed to the Church of the Assumption, a stunning example of colonial religious architecture in the area. Originally part of the 17th-century Franciscan convent, this architectural gem is nestled amongst artisan shops and traditional bakeries.

Our tour wraps up with your return to the hotel by 2:30 pm.
