Sendero del Capitán Hiking Expedition
Your day begins at 6:30 am with a pick-up from your hotel in San Luis Potosí as we make our way to the outskirts, reaching the trailhead of 'Sendero del Capitán'. Get ready to explore the city’s heritage on foot!
Our hike will commence at the Cerro de San Pedro, a historically significant location where San Luis Potosí was established. Before its urban development, this area was known as a thriving center for gold and silver mining. As we traverse the trail, witness diverse landscapes that transition from meadows and forests to the semi-desert terrain of Potosí.
The Sendero del Capitán will lead us through Monte Caldera, bringing us to Armadillo de los Infante, renowned for having been the first locality in San Luis Potosí to establish a printing press. Stroll along the cobblestone streets of this charming town, dotted with 17th-century architectural gems.
During our trek, we will delve into the life of Captain Miguel Caldera, the son of a Guachichil Indian and a Castilian captain, who played a pivotal role in the region's colonization and pacification. Additionally, we will venture into a cave, exposing you to an enchanting underground realm.
After covering 19 kilometers (11 miles), our adventure concludes at a ranch where you'll savor a delightful barbecue meal. Once satisfied, we will escort you back to your hotel in San Luis Potosí, wrapping up the experience by 6:30 pm.
