La Carolina Trip
At 7:30 am, we will pick you up at your hotel in Potrero de los Funes to the northern area of the Argentine province of San Luis.
After crossing the Pancanta Valley, we will arrive at La Carolina, a small village at the foot of Tomolasta Hill, named after Spanish King Carlos III. In the 18th century, various gold mines began operation in this area.
We will share numerous legends about "yellow fever" and the transportation of gold nuggets to Chile, where they were melted in the Santiago Mint.
We will also learn about gold extraction by visiting an old gold mine in La Carolina. Equipped in miner attire, we will take a short, low-difficulty route through the tunnels to see if we can find any precious nuggets.
After the mine visit, we will head to the prehistoric Inti Huasi cave to explore its secrets, learning about the lives of the first hominids who inhabited these caves.
At the end of the cave tour, we will return to La Carolina, where you will have one hour free for lunch. After lunch, we will return to your hotel in Potrero de los Funes, with arrival scheduled for 2:30 pm.
