This hiking expedition from San Martín de los Andes allows participants to climb the Colorado Volcano while experiencing breathtaking vistas of the surrounding Patagonian lakes.
Description
We'll begin by picking you up from your accommodation in San Martín de los Andes at the designated time, followed by a brief drive of approximately 30 minutes to reach the Colorado Volcano.
Upon arrival at the base of the crater, we will initiate a medium-level hiking journey, which spans a total of 5 hours. This adventure unfolds over an 8.5-kilometre (5.2-mile) path, featuring a vertical ascent of 800 metres (2625 feet). Let’s embark!
The route takes us through a lush Patagonian forest before leading us to a more rugged terrain. We will proceed upwards towards the summit of the Colorado Volcano, with an impressive height of 1742 metres (5700 feet). The mountain’s distinctive reddish hue is a result of ancient lava flows, remnants of which are visible throughout our climb.
Reaching the summit, we will be rewarded with stunning views of the Lanín volcano's southern slope and the tranquil valleys encompassing Lácar and Lolog lakes. While soaking in the panoramic sights, you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy a break and consume some snacks you’ve brought along.
Eventually, we will retrace our steps down to the trailhead, where a vehicle will be ready to transport us back to San Martín de los Andes. We anticipate returning to your hotel approximately 6 hours after pickup.
