Day Trip to Huechulafquen Lake & Lanín Volcano
At 9 am, we will pick you up from your hotel in downtown San Martin de los Andes and begin our excursion to two natural wonders in Neuquén province: Huechulafquen Lake and Lanin Volcano in Lanin National Park.
Our first stop will be at the mouth of the Chimehuín River, a popular fishing location and the source of the notable Huechulafquen Lake. This lake, along with Paimún and Epulafquen lakes, is part of an important lake system. Local legend speaks of a hidden city behind this lake.
Next, we will visit Junín de los Andes, where we will explore the Nuestra Señora de las Nieves church and the Mapuche cultural center. We will then journey through Lanin National Park to reach Lake Huechulafquen, the largest in the region.
After a break for lunch on your own, we will head towards Lake Huechulafquen for scenic views of the volcano that dominates the area.
We will also visit Lake Paimún, a peaceful area surrounded by mountains. Its name means "run quietly" in the local language.
On our return, we will stop at Mapuche communities to learn about their lifestyle and homes.
We will return to San Martin de los Andes around 6 pm and drop you back at your hotel.
