Guanajuato Day Trip
On the day of our adventure, we will convene at Calle Relox, departing from San Miguel de Allende and heading towards Guanajuato, situated approximately 70 kilometers to the north. Within an hour and a half while comfortably seated on a bus, we will arrive at our destination, a UNESCO World Heritage site renowned as the birthplace of Mexican Independence.
Our journey will commence with a thorough guided exploration of Guanajuato, a historic mining town. We will stroll through the renowned Callejón del Beso (alley of the kiss), where captivating tales and legends about this enchanting alleyway will be unveiled.
As we proceed with our tour, we will take in some of Guanajuato's most significant landmarks, such as the University, the Juarez Theatre, and the Basilica of Our Lady of Guanajuato. Nestled in the Plaza de la Paz, this stunning church commands attention with its striking yellow facade and grand baroque dome.
Next, we will venture into the Diego Rivera House Museum, previously the residence and studio of the esteemed muralist, showcasing some of his studio artworks.
Following our museum visit, we will delve into the tunnel network that lies beneath Guanajuato, gaining insights into the region’s mining history, which served as the primary source of income for its inhabitants for many years.
After our exploration of Guanajuato, you will have an hour of free time to enjoy a meal at a local eatery.
We will return to San Miguel de Allende after a fulfilling eight-hour experience.
