In this excursion to Santiago del Estero, we will explore the so-called Mother of Cities, a key city in northwest Argentina.
Tour Highlights
We will pick you up at your hotel in Tucumán and head south to Santiago del Estero, one of the oldest cities in northwestern Argentina and a significant location from the former Viceroyalty of La Plata.
Upon arrival, we will begin a tour of Santiago del Estero, passing by notable locations such as the Plaza de la Libertad (Liberty Square), where we will view the cathedral of Nuestra Señora del Carmen and the Cultural Center of the Bicentennial, the former Cabildo.
The next stop will be the church of Santo Domingo, home to a Holy Shroud, a significant relic. After learning about its history, you may choose to have lunch at a local restaurant.
Post-lunch, we will visit the outskirts of Santiago del Estero to see the patio of Indio Froilán, where a luthier will demonstrate the making of musical instruments, including the bombo legüero.
We will then start our return journey, with a brief stop in Termas de Río Hondo to explore its waterfront, the Central Dam, and a shopping center.
The excursion will conclude at your hotel in Tucumán, with a total duration of 10 hours.
