San Pedro de Colalao Day Trip
We'll begin the journey by picking you up from your hotel in San Miguel de Tucumán at the arranged time, setting off towards the Celestino Gelsi Dam, also known as El Cadillal. Adjacent to this impressive dam is the MAC: the Archaeological Museum of El Cadillal. Here, you will explore its permanent collection showcasing an array of ancient artifacts, including vessels, mortars, arrowheads, and various tools from the Candelaria people, who inhabited this region between the 3rd and 7th centuries AD.
Our journey unfolds as we continue to the charming village of Trancas, where you’ll uncover the unique contributions this small area made to the independence of Argentina. Proceeding north, we arrive at San Pedro de Colalao, a notable tourist destination in the northern part of the country.
The tour will also take us to one of the most esteemed pilgrimage locations in Tucumán: the Grotto of Lourdes. This site is a replica of the renowned cave located in France. You’ll learn about the history and the reasons behind the establishment of this small Catholic shrine in San Pedro de Colalao.
After exploring the grotto, you will have some free time to savor the delicious local cuisine. Following lunch, we will return you to your hotel in San Miguel de Tucumán, concluding the day approximately 8 hours after our departure.
