Embark on an enriching journey to uncover the heritage of the Calchaqui Indians with a trip that includes Tafi del Valle, the Quilmes ruins, and Cafayate, all departing from Tucuman. This excursion reveals some of the lesser-known treasures of Argentina.

Journey to Tafi del Valle, Cafayate and Quilmes

Your adventure begins with a pick-up at your accommodation in San Miguel de Tucumán at 7:30 am, setting off towards the San José de Lules ruins. Here, you’ll have the chance to delve into the history of the Lules Indians and their evangelization.

Continuing on, the next stop will be the Los Menhires archaeological reserve, home to over 50 megaliths, each with its own unique narrative. Following this, we will arrive at Tafi del Valle, a quaint village nestled between the Calchaqui valley and the Chacopampa plain.

In Tafi del Valle, you’ll have free time to enjoy a meal at your leisure or wander through the streets to admire the 18th-century Conjunto Jesuítico de La Banda. Our journey will continue as we ascend the Cumbres Calchaquíes mountains, part of the majestic Andes, reaching the renowned ruins of Quilmes. Here, you will learn about the resilient stand of the Calchaqui Indians against the Spanish colonizers.

After a scenic hour's drive, we will arrive in Cafayate, a town famous for its vineyards. You will have the opportunity to stroll through the historic center and visit a local winery for a wine tasting, showcasing the esteemed Torrontés grape grown in this area.

By 4 pm, we will depart from Cafayate, concluding our memorable experience and returning to San Miguel de Tucumán.
