Day Trip to Cantona

Immerse yourself in the fascinating world of a significant Mesoamerican civilization on this excursion to the Cantona archaeological site and Alchichica Lagoon departing from Cholula.

Excursion to Cantona & Alchichica Lagoon

Your adventure begins at 9 am with a pickup from your accommodation in Cholula, followed by a scenic drive of approximately two hours to our first location, the Cantona archaeological site.

As we step into this once imposing fortified city, you will stroll through its winding streets, plazas, and numerous structures, including ball game courts. Here, you can envision daily life within this pre-Columbian society. Remarkably, there were over 300 obsidian workshops operating in Cantona, where local craftsmen created a variety of products and dominated the trade routes in the central highlands.

Following our exploration of the Cantona ruins, we will proceed to Tepeyahualco around 1 pm, where you will have some free time to enjoy lunch. Afterward, we will embark on a journey to one of Mexico's notable alkaline lakes.

In just half an hour, we will arrive at the Alchichica Lagoon, a breathtaking water body adorned with impressive natural formations known as stromatolites. Here, you will learn about its origins linked to volcanic activity, as well as uncover intriguing local tales about the lagoon.

As our day concludes, we will return to Cholula, with an anticipated arrival at your hotel by 5 pm.
