Atacama Salt Flats Tour

The Licancabur Volcano, the salt flats of Aguas Calientes, the salt flats of Quisquiro... This excursion through the Atacama Desert explores emblematic sites of the Chilean Altiplano.

Salt Flats Route

We'll pick you up at your hotel in San Pedro de Atacama at the designated time. The journey proceeds towards the Andes Mountains, traversing the Chilean Altiplano over a distance of 150 kilometers by bus, where a light breakfast onboard is provided. The first stop will be the Licancabur volcano, measuring over 5,900 meters (19,356 feet), which serves as a natural border between Chile and Bolivia.

Highlights include the Quepiaco wetlands, which feature endemic vegetation at the foot of the volcanic range. We'll then head east to photograph the Monjes de la Pakana, unique geological formations shaped by wind erosion.

At midday, we’ll have a lunch break, with options for a meal en route (main dish and drink) or at a restaurant (two main dishes available and drink included).

After lunch, we'll visit the salt flats of Aguas Calientes and Quisquiro, known for their extensive white surfaces, complemented by the backdrop of the Andes. The final stop will be Laguna Negra before returning to San Pedro de Atacama, completing the tour approximately 7.5-8 hours later.

Pickup Info

The tour includes pickup from hotels within a 5-kilometer (3.10 miles) radius of the center of San Pedro de Atacama. Depending on availability, pickups may be arranged closer (2 kilometers max) or further away (10 kilometers max). Note that pick-ups in nearby towns such as Ayllus, Solor, Cucuter, and Toconao are not included.

Guests staying outside this radius will be informed of an alternative meeting point in their reservation voucher.
