Discover the volcanic landscapes of Piedras Rojas (Red Stones), located in the Chilean altiplano, along with the Atacama salt flat and high-altitude lagoons over 4,000 meters (13,000 feet) above sea level.

The tour begins with hotel pickup, followed by breakfast en route. Our first stop is Toconao, an indigenous village known for its white adobe buildings, where you'll learn about its history and visit the 18th-century Church of San Lucas and its bell tower.

If weather permits, next we'll visit Chaxa Lagoon, known for its scenic water mirrors and flamingos. A one-hour hike along the Piedras Rojas trail offers views of the salt flat and the highland lakes of Miscanti and Miñiques, with chances to see vicuñas, foxes, and flamingos.

After a lunch stop (either en route, consisting of a main dish and drink, or at a restaurant offering two dish options and a drink), we'll continue to Piedras Rojas. This area features vivid red landscapes resulting from iron oxidation, complemented by the emerald waters of the Salar de Aguas Calientes lagoon. The return to San Pedro de Atacama is scheduled for 12-13 hours later.

Pickup

Pickup is provided from hotels within a 10-kilometer radius of San Pedro de Atacama. We can accommodate nearer hotels (maximum 2 kilometers) as well. Pickup from nearby towns like Ayllus, Solor, Cucuter, and Toconao is not included. If you are in a remote area, an alternative meeting point will be provided in your reservation voucher.
