Puritama River Gorge Hiking Tour

On this hiking route along the Puritama River, we will follow the Atacameño people in search of waters with curative properties and have the opportunity to bathe in its natural pools.

Puritama River Gorge Hiking Tour

At the specified time, we will meet at unit 2, 429B Tocopilla Street in San Pedro de Atacama and travel 45 kilometres (27 miles) by bus to the valley of the Puritama River, a torrent in the Chilean Altiplano.

The riverbed features numerous waterfalls and natural pools, with some exhibiting hydrothermal properties. Erosion has created high walls flanking the river, forming an impressive canyon.

We will walk along the Puritama River gorge for half an hour, retracing the steps of the Atacameño people who have utilized the therapeutic waters for centuries. During this hike, we will observe the unique flora and fauna characteristic of the Chilean altiplano.

At the end of the hike, a thermal pool of crystalline waters will be available, with two hours of free time to enjoy a dip.

Afterward, the bus will pick us up for the return to San Pedro de Atacama, with an arrival time at the town's central square approximately 4 hours after departure.
