Explore one of the most breathtaking places in Chile on our Rainbow Valley Day Trip from San Pedro de Atacama. We'll admire the strikingly colourful mountains and see prehistoric engravings on the rocks.

Rainbow Valley Day Trip

At the indicated time, we'll pick you up from your hotel in San Pedro de Atacama and head south towards the foothills of the Cordillera Domeyko mountain range. During the journey, you'll admire the desert landscapes and the huge peaks of the Andes.

Our first stop will be the archaeological site of Yerbas Buenas, where you'll see ancient rock art from different cultures. Before this, we'll enjoy a breakfast. We'll walk through the pre-Colombian site and view the petroglyphs carved onto the rocks using sharp stone tools, depicting animals and daily life.

Next, we head to Rainbow Valley, passing through the town of Matancilla. Upon arrival, you'll see the colourful rocks that gave this place its name, formed by minerals in colourful strips, and explore unusual rock formations shaped by wind over millions of years.

Finally, we'll return to San Pedro de Atacama, concluding the tour after between 4.5 and 6 hours.

This activity includes pickup from hotels located within 5 kilometres or 3.1 miles from the centre of San Pedro de Atacama. Depending on availability, pickups may be arranged from hotels closer (maximum 2 kilometres or 1.2 miles) or further away (maximum 5 kilometres or 3.1 miles). For best results, specify accommodation in the historic centre. Note that pickups from nearby towns like Ayllus, Solor, Cucuter and Toconao are not included.
