Discover the great winemaking tradition of the Chilean Itata Valley on this tour from Concepción. You'll also learn about local artisanry & taste the area's typical drink, chupilca!

Itata Valley Vineyards & Wineries Tour

At 9 am, we'll depart from your hotel in Concepción towards the Itata Valley, one of the main wine-growing areas of central Chile.

We'll first visit a traditional winery in Portezuelo, a town located north of the confluence of the Ñuble and Itata rivers. As we tour its vineyards, we'll learn about the origins of this cultivation type, imported to Chile by the Jesuits over 200 years ago.

In these vineyards, we'll see 3 different grape varieties: País, Cinsault, and Moscatel. Each produces grapes with distinct nuances, which we'll learn to distinguish in a wine tasting. You'll also have the opportunity to taste chupilca, a local drink made from red wine and toasted flour.

Next, we'll stop in Chillán. In this picturesque town, we'll visit its traditional market, featuring a range of local handicrafts. You'll have an hour free for lunch in the town, after which we'll continue our tour by visiting a vineyard in Bulnes.

Here, we'll learn about the types of vines grown and taste the wines produced in their cellar. After this tasting, we'll return to your hotel in Concepción, arriving at 10 pm.
