Bodegas Codorníu - Guided Tours
Bodegas Codorníu, headquartered in Sant Sadurní d’Anoia (Barcelona) and origin in 1551, is the pioneer house of the cava in Spain, famous for its modernist cavas and a wide range of sparkling produced by the traditional method.
An exciting journey to the origins of the cava: Codorníu is synonymous with the history of a family of winegrowers dating back to the sixteenth century. It is the oldest family business in Spain and one of the oldest in the world. It currently has more than 450 years of history.
Manuel Raventós, the great promoter of Codorníu, hired in 1895 the modernist architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch (coetáneo de Gaudí) to expand the winery. The building he built symbolizes the fruitful alliance between nature and human labor and is a stone tribute to the silence of the cava.
Since 1976 they are Artistic Historical Monument and one of the most impressive examples of architecture dedicated to the elaboration and breeding of cavas.
Underground in a dedalo of underground cavas is where, for a century, Codorníu cavas carry out the second fermentation and breeding at an ever constant temperature. In 1872, Josep Raventós Fatjó produced cava for the first time in Spain following the Traditional Method and using native grapes of the Penedes: Macabeo, Xarel·lo and Parellada. In this way he installed a completely new industry in the region and linked the brand Codorníu to the history of the cava.
The printed ticket or mobile device is direct access at the entrance.
