On this tour through the neighbourhood of San Sebastián, we'll walk through the streets of Santa Cruz de La Palma to discover the island's capital's most unknown side.
Description
After meeting at the indicated time in Plaza Van Dale, we will explore the best-kept secrets of Santa Cruz de La Palma. The old town has been declared a Historic-Artistic Site.
We will visit the emblematic Chile Nitrate Sign, an Art Deco piece from 1929, notable for its preservation as it is made of ceramic. Then, we'll go to the Ascensor de La Luz to reach the San Telmo neighbourhood, where we will see the San Telmo hermitage, Plaza del Tanquito, and Plaza del Dornajo. These connect us with the San Sebastián neighbourhood and the old water tanks, which were active until the 20th century.
Next, we will walk to the Hermitage of San Sebastian, a notable example of Renaissance architecture in the Canary Islands. Inside, we will see a significant painting that crosses the ceiling and arches. Our next stop is the church of Santo Domingo, a large historic building from the 17th century.
We will also visit two important cultural institutions: the Teatro Circo de Marte and the Real Sociedad Cosmológica.
Finally, we will walk along calle Virgen de la Luz to conclude the tour at the Mercado Municipal de Abastos, lasting 1.5 hours.
