What is the Palmetum?
Located south of Santa Cruz de Tenerife's port, the Palmetum spans almost 30 acres (12 hectares) on an artificial hill, previously a landfill site. The garden features ocean views and a significant collection of flora, predominantly palms and island plants.
What will I find at the Palmetum?
The Palmetum hosts the largest collection of palms in Europe, with over 500 species. The garden is divided into various biogeographic zones, featuring plants from the Caribbean, Hawaii, Melanesia, Australia, Madagascar, and the Canary Islands. In addition to palms, around 2000 different plant species from tropical and subtropical climates can be found. Visitors can enjoy landscaped areas with streams, lakes, and waterfalls, as well as views over the Atlantic Ocean. The garden is also a habitat for wild birds like common moorhens, blue tits, blackbirds, and hoopoes.
