The Palmetum in Santa Cruz de Tenerife is a substantial botanical garden on the Canary Islands dedicated to subtropical plants.

What is the Palmetum?

Located south of Santa Cruz de Tenerife's port, the Palmetum spans nearly 30 acres (12 hectares) on an artificial hill that was previously a landfill site. It now serves as a park offering ocean views and a significant collection of flora, mainly palms and island plants.

What will I find at the Palmetum?

The Palmetum features the largest collection of palms in Europe, with over 500 species. The garden comprises various biogeographic zones, showcasing plants from the Caribbean, Hawaii, Melanesia, Australia, Madagascar, and the Canary Islands. The garden includes around 2000 different plant species from diverse tropical and subtropical climates, along with landscaped areas beside streams, lakes, and waterfalls. The elevated position of the garden provides views of the Atlantic Ocean and serves as a habitat for various wild birds.
