Located south of Santa Cruz de Tenerife's port, the Palmetum spans nearly 30 acres (12 hectares) on an artificial hill that was previously a landfill site. It now serves as a park offering ocean views and a significant collection of flora, mainly palms and island plants.

The Palmetum features the largest collection of palms in Europe, with over 500 species. The garden comprises various biogeographic zones, showcasing plants from the Caribbean, Hawaii, Melanesia, Australia, Madagascar, and the Canary Islands. The garden includes around 2000 different plant species from diverse tropical and subtropical climates, along with landscaped areas beside streams, lakes, and waterfalls.
