Aracataca Day Trip
Quotes like "Because even though I couldn't love him, I couldn't live without him" highlight why García Márquez's novel One Hundred Years of Solitude is essential in 20th-century literature. We will pick you up from your hotel in Santa Marta at 8 am to travel to the inspiration for this landmark novel.
After a 90-minute drive, we will arrive in Aracataca. García Márquez, awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1982, drew inspiration from his birthplace to create Macondo, the setting for much of One Hundred Years of Solitude.
Our tour of Aracataca will begin at the Telegrapher's House, a World Heritage Site that houses various works by García Márquez. We will visit the author's birthplace and San José Church, where he was baptized.
Throughout the tour, we will uncover facts about García Márquez's life, visiting his former school and the Remedios the Beauty Municipal Library.
At the end of the tour, we will return to your hotel in Santa Marta, arriving around 4 pm.
