If you're a Gabriel García Márquez fan, our Aracataca Day Trip is perfect for you. You'll travel to the author's hometown and explore the places that inspired him to create 'Macondo', the fictional town in One Hundred Years of Solitude.
Aracataca Day Trip
Quotes like "Because even though I couldn't love him, I couldn't live without him" illustrate why Gabriel García Márquez's novel One Hundred Years of Solitude is part of the 20th-century literary canon. We'll pick you up from your hotel in Santa Marta at 8 am and travel to the inspiration for this landmark novel.
After a 90-minute drive, we'll arrive in Aracataca. García Márquez, who won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1982, drew inspiration from his birthplace to create Macondo, a significant location in One Hundred Years of Solitude that exemplifies magical realism.
We'll begin our tour of Aracataca, or Macondo, by visiting Telegrapher's House, which houses copies of García Márquez's work and is a World Heritage Site. The itinerary includes a visit to the author's birthplace and San José Church, where he was baptized.
We will explore other notable sites in Aracataca related to García Márquez, including the school he attended and the Remedios the Beauty Municipal Library.
At the end of our tour, we'll return to your hotel in Santa Marta, expecting to arrive by around 4 pm.
