Aracataca Day Trip
We'll pick you up from your hotel in Santa Marta at 8 am and travel to the inspiration for this landmark novel.
After a 90-minute drive, we'll arrive in Aracataca. García Márquez, who won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1982, was inspired by his birthplace to create Macondo. This fictional town is central to One Hundred Years of Solitude and represents a literary universe within the narrative of magical realism.
Our tour of Aracataca will begin with a visit to Telegrapher's House, which houses copies of García Márquez's works and is a World Heritage Site. We'll also visit the author's birthplace and San José Church, where he was baptized.
While learning about García Márquez's life and work, we'll visit other locations in Aracataca, including the school he attended and the Remedios the Beauty Municipal Library.
At the end of our tour, we will return to your hotel in Santa Marta, arriving around 4 pm.
