History, architecture and worship blend perfectly together on this tour of Santa Marta's Churches, where we'll discover the religious heritage of this city.
Description
At the scheduled time, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Santa Marta. This walking tour explores the most beautiful cities on Colombia's Caribbean coast.
We'll first visit the San Juan de Dios Chapel, built in the colonial style and dating back to 1746, noted as one of the most revered churches in Santa Marta.
The next stop is the old Capuchin Monks convent, constructed in the 18th century in the Baroque style, featuring a stunning central patio. Here, we'll learn about its history as an important centre for learning and religious meetings during the colonial era.
We will then proceed to the San Francisco de Asís Church, a National Monument that has withstood many challenges, including earthquakes and pirate attacks, and once served as a women's prison.
The tour continues to the Santa María Cathedral Basilica, regarded as one of the oldest churches in Latin America. We'll explore its stained glass windows and learn about its rich history, including the housing of Simón Bolívar's remains before their relocation to Venezuela.
Finally, we will pass by the Santa María Bishops House, concluding the tour after 1.5 hours back at your hotel.
