Explore a captivating archaeological site and immerse yourself in the history of a Pre-Columbian society during the Taironaka Day Excursion. This journey will transport you to the 8th century, where you will uncover the lifestyle of the Tairona civilization.
Taironaka Day Excursion
After collecting you from your hotel early in the morning, we will embark on an hour-long drive to the Don Diego River. Upon arrival, a brief 15-minute hike will take us to the Taironaka Archaeological Site. Here, we will wander through the remnants of the ancient Tayrona city!
As we walk along the pathways, we will begin to examine the archaeological structures left by the Tairona culture. Descending the stone trails, we will observe the remains of agricultural terraces. We will stop to reflect on the staircases that once connected different areas, discussing the daily lives of the Tairona Indigenous people from the 8th century.
Additionally, our visit includes a tour of the museum where you can view authentic pottery artifacts. Following this, we will enter the picturesque Taironaka park. If the weather permits, we may encounter the Kogis, descendants of the Tairona. You will also have some leisure time to refresh yourself in the Don Diego River.
While in Taironaka Park, a traditional lunch will be served, featuring churrasco (grilled beef), alongside salad, potatoes, or rice accompanied by shrimp and tostones.
After our meal, we will make our way back to Santa Marta. Finally, we will return you to your hotel and bid farewell.
