Tayrona Park Day Trip

Explore the jungle and visit dreamlike beaches on our Tayrona Park Day Trip. We will tour one of Colombia's important ecological reserves, departing from Santa Marta.

Day Trip Details

After hotel pickup in Santa Marta, we will drive for 1 hour and 30 minutes to Tayrona Park, located between the Caribbean Sea and Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. On arrival, we will have an introduction to nature conservation before exploring the jungle trails.

We will hike for a total of 4 hours through the rich ecosystem of Tayrona National Park and may see iguanas, howler monkeys, ocelots, anteaters, and solitary eagles. Next, we will visit the beaches of Cañaveral, Arrecifes, Arenilla, and La Piscina, before heading to Cape San Juan del Guía for free time to sample local gastronomy. We will conclude with a viewpoint visit for panoramic views before returning to Santa Marta for drop-off 11 hours after pickup.

Walking Times

This tour includes a 16-kilometer (9.9 mile) medium-hard difficulty hike, taking 4 hours to complete: 2 hours walking, and 2 hours for return.

Speedboat Trip

You can choose from three options for the speedboat between Cabo San Juan to Santa Marta Bay.

Tour with return trip by speedboat: Return by speedboat from Cabo San Juan to Santa Marta Bay, allowing for more time in Cape San Juan. Transfer to hotels is not included.

Tour with outward and return speedboat: Speedboat there and back, includes transfer to hotels.

Schedules and Duration

Tour without speedboat transport (11 hours total): pickup at 6:30 am.Tour with speedboat transport on the return journey (10 hours total): pickup at 6:30 am.Tour with round-trip speedboat transport (8 hours total): pickup at 9 am.

Hotel Pickup

Pickup and drop-off at hotels in Bello Horizonte, Rodadero, and central Santa Marta are included. A supplement of 20USD per person applies for accommodations in the airport area, via Cienaga, or Taganga.

The tours including walking start at 6:30 am, and the option involving only the speedboat tour starts at 9:30 am.

Requirements

From June 16, 2025, a yellow fever vaccination card will be required at Colombia's National Parks.
