Discover the extraordinary paintings of the Altamira caves and visit the museum's replica of this over 30,000-year-old site. You'll also explore the medieval town of Santillana del Mar.
Tour Details
The tour departs from Santander to Santillana del Mar, home to the Altamira cave, one of the most significant Palaeolithic sites globally, allowing only five people weekly to enter to ensure preservation. Next, we will visit the Altamira National Museum and Research Centre to view a life-size replica of the caves, observe the detailed cave paintings, and learn about the cave's discovery in 1868.
After this, the tour of Santillana del Mar, known as "the town of three lies", will begin. The tour includes a visit to the Plaza Mayor and a stroll through the town's cobbled streets to the collegiate church of Santa Juliana. Participants will have one hour of free time to explore Santillana del Mar and appreciate the medieval architecture of its historic centre.
After the tour, we return to Santander.
