Join us to discover some of the hidden gems in Cantabria on this excursion to the Caves of Puente Viesgo. We'll see cave paintings and learn about the local Pasiega tradition.
Puente Viesgo Caves Tour
We'll pick you up from the agreed meeting point at the scheduled time and set off to Puente Viesgo, home to four extraordinary caves that have been declared World Heritage Sites.
First, we'll discover the Cueva del Castillo cave and view its rock paintings believed to be the oldest in the world. Next, we'll head into the Cueva de las Monedas cave to admire more prehistoric paintings and original karst formations.
We'll continue at the Cave Art Interpretation Center to learn about the origin and development of cave art in the area.
Before concluding the excursion, we'll visit the town of Puente Viesgo and explore its emblematic spots, including the church, the Fuentespila palace, and the eighteenth-century mansions characteristic of this region.
Finally, we'll return to the starting point, and the activity will last a total of four to five hours.
Meeting point & time
This tour departs from Santander and Torrelavega. Depending on the selected starting point, we will meet at:
Santander: pickup at your hotel.Torrelavega: we will meet at the Pabellón Municipal de la Habana Vieja, located on Pintor Varela Street.
Pickup in Torrelavega is half an hour later than in Santander. For example, if the tour begins in Santander at 3 pm, pickup in Torrelavega will be at 3:30 pm.
