Santarem Guided Tour and Cathedral

We will meet up at your chosen time in the garden of the Republic, in front of the former convent of San Francisco. From here, we will begin a guided tour on foot through the northern part of Santarém.

After admiring the gothic-style façade of the Santa Clara Church, we will stroll along the barracks involved in the Revolution of the Carnations, learning about this significant military uprising in Portugal's history.

Next, we will walk to the elegant Town Hall and visit the municipal market, where we will see traditional decorative tiles dating back to the 18th century. We will also explore the remains of the city walls to learn about the city during the Muslim era.

We will encounter a sculpture in honor of Bernardo de Sá Nogueira and discuss his significance, while also stopping to taste some local sweets.

The tour concludes with a visit to the cathedral of Santarém and the Diocesan Museum, featuring over 150 pieces of art and baroque design. The tour finishes outside the museum two hours after we began.
