Santarem Guided Tour and Cathedral
We will meet up at the time of your choice in the garden of the Republic, in front of the former convent of San Francisco. From here, we will begin a guided tour on foot through the northern part of Santarém, learning about its important historical moments.
After admiring the gothic-style façade of the Santa Clara Church, we will stroll along barracks that played a key role in the Revolution of the Carnations. Along the way, you will learn about this military uprising in Portugal's history.
We will then walk to the elegant Town Hall and visit the municipal market, where we will see traditional decorative tiles dating back to the 18th century. Following this, we will explore the remains of the city walls, focusing on the city during the Muslim era.
We will also encounter a sculpture in honor of Bernardo de Sá Nogueira and discuss his significance. Additionally, we will stop to taste some local sweets.
The tour will conclude with a visit to the cathedral of Santarém and the Diocesan Museum, featuring over 150 pieces of art and baroque design. Two hours after we began, we will finish the tour outside the museum.
