Follow in the footsteps of the pilgrims that sought shelter in Santiago when you take this tour of the Hostal de los Reyes Católicos. Discover the history and art of this historic refuge at the end of the famous Way of St. James.

Hostal de Los Reyes Católicos Guided Tour

We will meet up at 11 am in front of the Hostal de los Reyes Católicos, in the Plaza del Obradoiro square. This old hospital, now a hotel, is a prime example of Spain's ornate 'plateresque' architectural style from the 15th century. It was constructed by the Catholic Monarchs to provide shelter to pilgrims who, upon completing their journey, were often tired and ill.

During the tour, you will learn about the original function of the hospital as accommodation and healthcare. We will explore the four interconnected interior courtyards featuring water fountains and visit the royal chapel, where the poet Rosalía de Castro was baptized.

Our tour will also include the sacristy of the church, the stairs of Bethlehem, the old delivery room, and will conclude in the old stables. This experience will transport you to another era in history.
